This five-year program is supported by NSF 94-23,
Engineering Combined Research - Curriculum Development (CRCD) Program, with matching funds
from UC Davis. It was started July 1, 1996. The major impetus of the program will be to
satisfy the need for rigorous mathematical and technical graduate training in MRI. The
courses will be useful to engineering students and professionals that want to advance MRI
technology and to others that simply want to use it. The program will also identify
magnetic resonance as a career path for engineers. Strong demand exists for individuals
with MRI training and this will increase over the next decade. For industry, students with
wide-ranging backgrounds coupled with MRI expertise are needed to identify unique
situations where MRI can have application. Clinical imaging departments are in need of
scientific expertise in MRI for quality assurance, protocol development, and research
project support. |
