Get Started - Message from the Director

It is my privilege to have assumed the leadership of the UC Davis Imaging Research Center. The mission of the Center is to support the highest quality MR-based and multimodal imaging research program, with a strong, though not exclusive, emphasis on imaging neuroscience. The Center is one element in a set of campus-wide initiatives in cognitive and clinical neuroscience. Our role is to provide imaging scientists with ready access to a wide range of state of the art tools for non-invasively imaging the function, structure, connectivity and chemistry of the human brain in health and in disease. There is a strong emphasis on multimodal imaging approaches, combining structural, chemical, functional and electrophysiological measures to develop a richer understanding of the neural basis of normal and disordered cognitive and emotional processing. Even as you browse this page our Center is undergoing a rapid expansion. This includes the installation of a state-of-the-art 3 Tesla scanner (a Siemens TRIO, which was installed in October of 2004), upgrades to our workhorse 1.5 T scanner, the installation of a new ERP lab as well as the purchase of a Neuroscan MAGLINK system for real time fMRI/ERP recording, as well as new computing and informatics resources to support the processing, analysis, display and storage of imaging data. We have also added significantly to our team of technical and scientific personnel that help support our mission and will continue to do so during the coming year. Together with Michael H. Buonocore, the Technical Director of the Center, I am delighted to welcome you to the Imaging Research Center and look forward to UC Davis taking its place as a leader in imaging research and in cognitive and clinical neuroscience in the coming years.

Cameron Carter, M.D., Director of the IRC
